From Super Model to an Ironman

Milind Soman, a well-known name in the world of Modelling. He is also a fitness freak. But he was not born in a superstar family. Now he is from a high class society. But still he has a big name in the world of modelling. And now he is called an Iron Man of India.

Born in a Maharashtrian family in Scotland on 4th Nov 1965. At the age of 7 his family moved to India. And then he inhibited a new life. He is a self-made man. He has carved his own destiny. First, he becomes a National level Swimmer and then he became a supermodel. He was first got noticed in an Alisha Chinai musical video titled Made in India. Milind faced rejection in his first modelling assignment with Gravier Suiting because he was thought to be too young to wear a suit. His breakthrough finally came as model for Thackersey fabrics.

When he was at a peak of his career, he decides to become an actor and worked on almost 22 projects. But he failed. Nevertheless, he moved on. Also, he is one of the judges of the most prestigious calendar shoot of India called as Kingfisher Calendar. Now he is one of the judges in almost all the model hunt shows.

Apart from being a fitness freak he is a serious runner. He is known for running barefoot. Whenever he comes to Bangalore he will definitely come to Cubbon Park for a run. He also participates in many marathons and social running events. But this time what he has done was totally unexpected.

He took part in one of the most difficult triathlons of the world: The Iron Man Triathlon. An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike ride and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run, raced in that order and without a pause.

The time needed to complete the event is 16 hrs but this human has finished it in 15 hrs 19 minutes and 22 seconds. This is the upshot of the 86 days training which he undergoes in Mumbai before heading for the event on 19th July held in Zurich, Switzerland. It is one of the most prestigious event of the world and also the hardest one. One required to undergo a rigorous training and determination.

Milind has shown his capability. At the age of 50 he has completed one Ironman. After finishing the race, he said: “One Ironman – Done. Beautiful experience, finished in 15hrs.19min
